IV IG (Intravenous immunoglobulin) therapy has been shown to be beneficial in the treatment of several immune regulation disorders as well as many neurological disorders. A patient can be prescribed IVIG therapy in the event he or she has not responded to other disease-specific therapies such as antibiotics, steroids and immunomodulatory agents (IMAs) or because the physician feels this is the most appropriate treatment choice.
IV IG is given as a plasma protein replacement therapy (IgG) for immune deficient patients who have decreased or abolished antibody production capabilities. In these immune deficient patients, IVIG is administered to maintain adequate antibody levels to prevent infections and confers a passive immunity.
Patients referred to Suburban Home Health Care in need of IV IG Therapy will be assigned one of our clinicians who will manage the patients’ specific plan of care and will monitor the patient’s progress over the course of treatment.
